One of my favorite places to eat in Houston is Churrascos. We usually go to their monthly wine dinners, but no matter when we go we never have a bad experience and the food is amazing! As I mentioned on my last post, once a year the month of August turns into Restaurant Weeks. One of the best ways to try new restaurants is dining out during this month! For a set price of $35 for dinner you get regular size portions at a very discounted rate and restaurants donate $5 per dinner sold to the Houston Food Bank. It’s a win win for everyone! You have to be sure you ask for the restaurant week menu when you sit down, because they don’t just hand them out when you can pay full price on the regular menu.
We started off with some cocktails and I have to say their Mojito $8 is to die for! The Red Sangria $9 was also good, but not the best I’ve ever had.
I love the fried plantain chips and dipping sauces you get as you look the menu over. Yummy!
Cubana (regular price $8) (black bean soup with smoked ham, onion-cilantro relish & provolone cheese served in a toasted sourdough bread boule) Love when soups come in bread bowls. This bean soup was really really good and I recommend ordering this.
Esmeralda (regular price $9) (baby spinach, candied pecans, goat cheese crumbles, raspberry-dill vinaigrette) Loved the raspberry-dill vinaigrette. I was worried the dill would be overpowering, but there’s a really nice balance in the vinaigrette. For sure a fantastic salad.
The Churrasco (regular price 6 oz $28) ("Voted Esquire Magazine's Top 20 Steaks in America" our signature center cut beef tenderloin, seasoned with chimichurri & chargrilled) If you order this you’ll see why it’s voted the best steak. The meat is so tender you’ll want to cut it up in tiny bites so it seems like it last longer!
We also opted for the $12 Lobster Tail and wow was it worth it!
Puntas (regular price $22) (grilled beef tenderloin with yuca fries & choice of mushroom- sherry, mild onion jalapeña crema, or green peppercorn sauce) I chose the jalapena crema and loved it!! Oh wow this is a really good dish.
They also give you a vegetable platter to share including plantains, carrots, potato, mushrooms, yuca and a fantastic flavored rice.
The Original Tres Leches ($8 regular price) Their most popular desserts and you’ll want to try this for sure. I’m a huge fan of it!
Delirio De Chocolate ($8 regular price) (chocolate truffle cake, chocolate mousse, chocolate ganache) The cake is rich and tends to fall over with the ganache so thick on the top. I was also thrown off that they use a raspberry sauce that went really good with the cake and then garnished with strawberries. I think they should have put raspberries on the plate rather than strawberries, but that’s my own opinion.
Saved $13 by doing the restaurant week menu. Of course I’ll be back since they are one of my favorite restaurants in Houston! Be sure to check their website. They offer monthly wine dinners and do special menus throughout the year to support different causes.
