Local Table

IMG_0680 (600x800)

I attended a dinner meeting at Local Table to meet with the fellow moms of our co-op program to see what changes we needed to make and get ready for the next school year. I love dinner meetings, because it gives me a chance to try new places and everyone orders different things so I get to see more than just 2 dishes we would normally order.

The inside is nicely redone since the last tenant. They added brick to the walls and it has a nice modern feel to it.

I ordered a Bourbon Smash $9 (Maker’s Mark with muddled mint, lemon simple syrup and soda). The flavor is really good and just the right amount of mint added.

Their home-style fries $4 each (sweet potato with chipotle ketchup and Cajun seasoned hand cup). Each are good, but I favored the sweet potato with that dipping sauce. Wow is it good, you won’t be disappointed ordering these!

Baja Chicken Wrap $12 (Avocado, black beans, lettuce, tomato, feta, and our homemade chipotle chili sauce in a whole wheat tortilla. Served with iceberg wedge salad topped with chunky feta jalapeno dressing.)

IMG_0686 (800x600)

Classic Grilled Chicken Baguette $11 (Provolone cheese, roasted red bell pepper, basil pesto and fresh mixed greens. Served with Cajun seasoned hand-cut fries.)

IMG_0688 (800x600)

Mediterranean Salamon $17 (Grilled salmon, guacamole, feta with herb basmati rice and seasonal market vegetables.) My friend said the dish was just ok nothing special about it and would order a different plate next time.

IMG_0690 (800x600)

I had the Mediterranean Wrap $12 (Seasoned lamb and beef, tomato, oinion, lettuce and our Grecian sauce in a whole wheat tortilla. Served with iceberg wedge salad topped with chunky feta jalapeno dressing.) I thought it could have used a little more meat in it, but overall the flavor was really good. The one thing I loved the most was the dressing on the salad. O…M…G…. there’s a little spice, but not too bad just to get the jalapeno flavor. I probably would have licked the plate if no one was looking.

Cheeseburger Americana $12 (Our hearty favorite with cheddar.)

I have my fingers crossed for them. Their food is good and priced good. Please stick around a while we need more good restaurants like this in Katy!

El Canton

IMG_0028 (800x600)

We had a chance to try out the new wood fired pizza shop called El Canton that just opened up with another couple. Be sure to check Groupon we where able to get a 50% off coupon on there.

The inside is nicely done. You can tell they put a lot of work into the place.

IMG_0029 (800x600)IMG_0043 (800x600)

Fried Buffalo Mozzarella $9 (fresh buffalo mozzarella, hand-breaded & topped wiht parmesan, served with marinara). These little balls are bites of heaven. I loved each and every one of them!

IMG_0035 (800x600)

Calamari Fritti $9 (Hand-breaded squid, served with marinara). The breading was perfect and it was cooked perfect, my only complaint is that they must have forgot to sprinkle a little salt on top to really bring out the flavor.

IMG_0038 (800x600)

Meatlover $17 large (Pizza sauce, mozzarella, ground beef, bacon, chorizo, ham, Italian sausage). Their pizza was nice and meaty. The chorizo seemed to dominate the flavor so you couldn’t taste the flavor of the other meats. I also wished it had a little more of the wood fire taste to it.

IMG_0040 (800x600)IMG_0041 (800x600)IMG_0042 (800x600)

Alfredo Fettuccine $12, added chicken for $2 (Parmesan & Mushroom). I would not order this again, the chicken was diced so small you didn’t know it was in there. The sauce was also a little bland.

IMG_0039 (800x600)

I would probably give them one more chance, I expected a little more wood fire flavor on the pizza. Service was attentive, I just expected a little more on the food end.

Salty Sow

IMG_9764 (800x797)

I happened to come across this place a few times in searches and we finally got a chance to try it out while visiting my niece. The Salty Sow doesn’t look like much from the outside, but they have lots of indoor space and a fantastic outdoor patio space, which is also pet friendly.

While we waited for my niece to arrive we started out with a few cocktails and appetizers. D got a Maple Glazed Old Fashion $8 and I ordered a Sow Rita $8 which was one of the best margaritas I’ve ever had! Be sure to hit them at happy hour like we did and get $2 off all signature sips, beer and wine. 4:30-6:30pm everyday.

IMG_9737 (800x600)IMG_9739 (800x600)

From the happy hour menu we got Truffled Deviled Eggs ($5 for happy hour or $6.50 on menu) and Duck Fat Fries with 110 minute egg and cold bearnaise ($5.50 on happy hour and $8 on menu) and Pork Belly Taco $5 on happy hour menu. The taco wasn’t anything special, but the others are for sure worth the order. D thought I was crazy ordering deviled eggs, but it was one of the items I kept reading about over and over again and I see why now.

IMG_9744 (800x600)IMG_9741 (800x600)IMG_9745 (800x600)

For the main dishes I ordered a kids portion of the crispy chicken (I forgot the price). The chicken was really moist and crispy we tried to not eat all of my son’s food.

IMG_9742 (800x600)

I ordered the Genuine Blackened Redfish (quinoa, lentils, smoked tomatoes, chipotle Tabasco lemon butter) $24. The sauce was so good! Highly recommend this dish for seafood lovers.

IMG_9752 (800x600)

Petite Bone-in Filets (mushroom, bone marrow red wine sauce) $23 add a third filet $33. The sauce was so delicious. Everything about this dish is a winner!

IMG_9771 (800x800)

Crisp Chicken Thighs (all-natural chicken, fried smashed potato, neck bone gravy) $15.50. My niece really loved the dish and mentioned how moist the chicken came out.

IMG_9751 (800x600)

As if we didn’t have enough food we got an order of Crispy Brussels Sprout Leaves (golden raisins, Pecorino) $7. Wow where these good! Plenty for 4 people to share.

IMG_9748 (800x600)

I don’t care if you are so full you are about to burst, but this Bananas Foster Beignets (cane syrup, honey & nutmeg ice cream) $7 are to die for! Oh….sooo….goood!!

IMG_9754 (800x600)

I truly loved this place and can’t wait to come back and try some of their other dishes. The staff is wonderful and they even ring a bell to give you a warning happy hour is about to end.
