Hop Doddy Burger Bar

IMG_2813 (800x600)

Hubby has been on a kick to find a really good burger place in Austin so one of our neighbors offered to take us to Hop Doddy. He told us we need to get there before they open because there’s always a line. I laughed and said ok, but let me tell you on a Monday and 15 minutes before they opened there’s a line and it only gets longer once they open. I never imagined I would wait in 30 degree weather outside for a burger, but I can check that off my list now!

Once you are allowed in you stand in line and place your order then they assign you table. I have to say this is a well oiled machine of a place, customer service was fantastic and you never feel rushed, except for the hungry eyes staring at you for the line outside.

There’s not really a kid menu, but they will make you a grilled cheese sandwich if you ask for it which is not on the menu.

I felt like a fatty with as much food as we ordered, but we had to try a variety since we didn’t know when we could get back here. We started with the Green Chili Queso which comes with fries to dip in it. OMG so good. I love a good thick queso. If I could order a gallon to go I would probably eat it with every meal if I could.

Because one batch of fries isn’t enough, we ordered the Truffle fries which come with a truffle aioli to dip in. (Don’t judge we where sharing!) These are also really good and worth ordering!

D ordered the Goodnight Burger ($1 is donated to a local charitable organization
Angus Beef, Tillamook Cheddar, Hickory BBQ Sauce, Caramelized Onions,
Sliced Jalapeno, Hickory BBQ, Sassy Sauce) He loved this burger and the flavor was really great from the bite I tried.

I ordered the Prime Time Burger (Texas Akaushi Beef, Brie Cheese, Truffle Aioli, Arugula, Caramelized Onions, Steak Sauce). I really enjoyed this burger. The onions are perfectly caramelized and I love the added brie with a hint of truffle flavor such a great combo!

IMG_2821 (800x600)

They also serve a good selection of craft beers, but be warned they come in a giant fish bowl glass like you should be having a margarita in.

IMG_2816 (600x800)

We also shared a Nutella and Chocolate Pretzel Shake which is really really good!

I didn’t get the individual prices, I’ll have to take a picture of the menu next time we go, but our bill quickly added up to $54.94, but trust me it’s worth every penny!

Miso Yummy Food Truck

IMG_2610 (800x600)

Today I was downtown at the zoo with my son and when we left it was lunch time so I was excited to hit up a food truck that doesn’t come out in my area. Miso Yummy has a neat combo of Hot Dogs, Ramen and Sushi with a Vietnamese and Korean twist. Be sure to check out their Facebook and Twitter page to find out where they’ll be next.

Of course my kiddo passes out right as we got in the car which worked out perfect for me. I got to eat in peace and quiet which is rare. Since I’m not in town often I ordered two things to try and took half home for my hubby.

I ordered the Slaw-P Dog $7 (100% Beef Dog topped with shredded cheese, a sweet tangy sesame coleslaw mix and our Asian sauce and signature yummy sauce). Thank goodness they stuck a knife and fork in my bag, because you’ll need it! I really liked the slaw flavor on top with all the sauces, but trying to eat the whole thing in one bite to get all the flavors is tricky.

Next I ordered the Hot Mama Fries $7 (Zesty fries with shredded cheese, melted jalapeno cheese, and spicy snow crab mix topped with sriracha and spicy mayo.) These where really good, they put a ton of crab on top so it really brings the spice level down a little, but I just loved all the flavor combos so I’ll have to try something like this at home.

I can’t wait to come back and try some of their Ramen and Sushi Rolls next time.

Cravin’ Cajun

IMG_2463 (800x600)
As I have learned with my husband over and over about places you can’t judge by the outside. I think walking up he was ready to get back in the car and go somewhere else, but after talking him into it he agreed to give it a go. By the time we left he was saying he couldn’t wait to come back. Cravin’ Cajun is a newer place that opened up this past year and the word I keep hearing is they have the best boiled crawfish around. It’s also BYOB so it’s a great place to hit on the weekend. They serve Cajun food with an Asian Fusion. Sounds strange but it’s really good.
IMG_2457 (800x600)
We started out with their Cravin’ Fries $5.99 (Our famous Fries topped w/ our special shrimp, crawfish tails, & crab meat creamy sauce Finished off w/ onions, cilantro, &  spicy mayo) Totally worth ordering their sauce is really good!
IMG_2461 (800x600)
We also ordered the crawfish bites $5.99. The batter is nice on the crawfish, but ask for their seasoning it’ll kick it up a little.
IMG_2458 (800x600)
My son goes to town on Eggrolls so we ordered him the Eggroll Appetizer (3) $3.25 (Vietnamese Style: pork, carrots, onions, cabbage, & ermicelli wrapped in thin rice paper and deep fried until crisp. Served w/ lettuce leaves, fish sauce pickled carrots, & chili sauce) He ate them all so I’m thinking they passed the test.
IMG_2459 (800x600)
D ordered the Cravin’ Fried Rice $11.99 (Our famous Fried Rice topped w/ our  special shrimp, crawfish tails, & crab meat creamy sauce. Finished off w/ green onions & cilantro) He ended up taking most of this home for lunch the next day because it’s really filling. Sounds like a strange combo, but it works really well and reminds you of an ettoffee, but Asian style.
IMG_2458 (800x600)
I ordered the Shrimp Poboy $8.50 (You have a choice of Shrimp, Catfish, Oysters, Chicken, Spicy Sausage, Gator. The Southern Style Sandwich made w/ mayo, spicy mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, & pickles. Served on a French baguette. All Po-Boys served w/ Cajun fries.) I order again in a heart beat, I was truly shocked at how much shrimp was stuffed in this sandwich. I even took half home for lunch the next day and it was still delish.

Can’t wait to come back to try their other items as well as their famous boiled crawfish this season.
